Dorlins when it was located at Crown Buildings, Crosby

OVER 60 YEARS OF HISTORY

Dorlins’ journey began in 1958 under the name of Retail Hosiery Co. Ltd Drapers located at 48 South Road, Waterloo. Since that beginning, the shop has had many changes, including being a Florist in 1966. It then changed it’s name to Mac’s Flower Basket Florist & Dorlins Woollen Drapers in 1968, before moving to Crown Buildings after 1970, where it finally became Dorlins.

Doreen and Linda ran the business until 1976 when it was purchased by Elizabeth Roberts and Sylvia Edwards, who have grown the business into what it is today: a well known haberdashery shop in the Crosby / Waterloo area that caters to everyone’s needs.

In 2016 Elizabeth’s granddaughter, Monique Bell, took over the business with a business partner, Clare Griffiths. They have brought the business into the 21 st century with social media pages, an eBay shop, and even this website!

In 2017 Clare left to have a beautiful baby girl called Chloe, and Sophie Weymouth has taken over her half of the partnership. Sophie has her own textile design company so it goes hand in hand with Dorlins!

I have always been crafty, and I used to shop in Dorlins when it was in Crosby Village as a child. I am so happy that it is still going and that I can be a part of it!

Many people have come into the shop over the years for help and advice on their sewing, knitting and crochet projects. If you ever want to pop in then our volunteers are always happy to help and are pretty good at least one of the above! The staff have always gone out of their way to deliver friendly and professional service to customers, giving Dorlins a special place in the hearts of many of the community in Waterloo and Crosby.

Dorlins has been a big part of my life since I was small, it feels amazing to have a hand in running it and giving back to the local community!

Present day Dorlins is now based on St John’s Road, Waterloo. This road of shops is described by the Liverpool Echo as “a haven for individual businesses, many of which have been owned by the same families for decades, while others are relatively new, attracted by the ambiance of the road.”

The latest owners, Monique and Sophie, are adding their own unique ideas to the business and will be giving Dorlins another makeover, as well as offering more and more classes – pop in and tell us what you’d like to learn! We always try and make sure the stock appeals to customers of all ages, and that they have an enjoyable experience when they visit!
